About The Position

Vanderbilt Health is expanding and welcoming its newest hospital, Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital! The Certified Surgical First Assist provides proper and efficient care of the patient in the operating room under the direct supervision of the circulating nurse. He/she knows sterile technique, understands basic anatomy and operative procedures. He/she also has knowledge of instruments and equipment used in the operating rooms. May perform as Surgical Tech when necessary. Must be registered with the State of TN. Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital is a 270-bed community hospital within the Vanderbilt Health system, serving Clarksville and the surrounding region. The hospital provides a broad range of services, including emergency care, labor and delivery, intensive care, surgical services, oncology, and women’s and children’s care. Requirements

Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical assistant training program during the applicant's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
1 year of relevant work experience.
Registration with the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
Certification from one of the listed issuers below: CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant - National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA), CSA- Certified Surgical Assistant - National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), SA-C – Surgical Assistant-Certified - American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
Technical Capabilities: Equipment Maintenance (Intermediate), Operating Room Care (Intermediate), Environmental Sterility & Safety (Intermediate), Inventory Management (Novice), Surgical Technology (Intermediate), Procedures Knowledge (Intermediate), Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Intermediate)

Responsibilities

Certified Surgical Scrub Tech/First Assistant
Assist surgeon on surgical procedures with hemodynamics, suturing, retracting
Assist OR staff as requested
Adheres to practices and policies outlined to ensure patient safety and follows infection control standards
