Under the direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon, the Certified Surgical Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions to help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. This role prioritizes patients and their needs, developing and sustaining productive patient relationships by actively seeking information to understand patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. The assistant builds rapport and cooperative relationships with patients, considering how actions will affect others and responding quickly to meet patient needs and resolve problems. The certified surgical assistant must possess a working knowledge of operating room procedures, including attire and infection control, and be familiar with individual requirements and recommended practices of compliance. They must anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members, while maintaining a professional attitude regarding patient dignity, privacy, and safety. Services will be provided in licensed hospitals and ambulatory treatment centers.
