The Certified Sterile Processing Technician cares for and maintains all surgical instrumentation, sterilization devices, instrument washers, and monitoring systems under the supervision of surgical leadership and based on policies and procedures of the Surgical Services Department, AORN recommendations, and DHEC regulations. This role involves applying knowledge of Universal Precautions, sterile processing, and aseptic techniques, understanding the rhythm of surgical procedures and the purpose of instruments. The technician will process surgical instruments and scopes, test sterilizers, ensure supplies are available, and assist with physician preference cards. They must also adhere to hospital system policies, including safety, infection control, and risk management, as well as regulatory requirements (CDC and State) and accreditation standards. Cultivating a cohesive work environment by supporting and working effectively with teammates is also a key aspect of the role.
