Certified Sterile Processing Technician - Float Pool West Region
About The Position
This position is responsible for decontaminating, assembling, and packaging all instruments according to established protocols. The technician will also perform necessary repairs, reassemble, and store specialized surgical instruments. They will prepare order requests for replacement parts and additional equipment as needed. Maintaining a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices is crucial. Staff must don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow decontamination protocols referencing manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU). The role involves identifying instruments for all specialties, ensuring proper function, and following protocols for repair or replacement of malfunctioning instruments. Assembling and packaging all instrumentation and sets according to department protocol is required. The technician will operate equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and hospital policy, including steam autoclaves, ETO, and Gas Plasma sterilizers. Maintaining appropriate logs and records related to the sterilization process, such as Ethylene Oxide Aeration Records, Sterilizer Load Records, and Biological Monitoring Records, is essential. The role also includes responding to problem calls from the Operating Room, performing preliminary investigations, determining priority levels for instrumentation and equipment requests, and ensuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Requires current national certification as a SPD Technician, Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Surgical Instrument Processor.
- Relevant experience with sterilizing instruments which qualifies the candidate for the national certification exam or certified registration.
- Must have mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate and reassemble.
- Problem solve incomplete trays and missing instrumentation.
- Have effective organizational, communication and human relation skills.

Responsibilities

- Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices.

- Identifies instruments for all specialties and assures proper function.
- Follows protocol for repair or replacement of instruments that are not functioning properly.
- Assembles and packages all instrumentation and sets according to dept. protocol.
- Utilizes equipment according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy.
- Operates steam autoclaves, ETO and Gas Plasma sterilizers.
- Maintains appropriate logs and records relating to the sterilization process, including the Ethylene Oxide Aeration Records, Sterilizer Load Records, and Biological Monitoring Records.
- Responds to problem calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigation.

- Directs services in a competent and professional manner while assuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner.
