About The Position

This is a full-time evening position for a Certified Sterile Processing Technician. The role involves ensuring the proper sterilization and care of surgical instruments and equipment within the Sterile Processing Department. The technician will be responsible for various tasks including cleaning, sorting, sterilizing, and documenting the processes, while adhering to strict infection control and safety practices. The position requires the ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Maintains certification as a Sterile Processing Tech (CBSPD or equivalent)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work varied hours, weekends, and be on call
  • Ability to understand and operate efficiently all machines and equipment used and maintained in the Sterile Processing Department
  • Ability to stand and ambulate within limited area most of working shift
  • Ability to stoop frequently
  • Ability to reach from floor to overhead level occasionally
  • Ability to push/pull to 175 pounds frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to handle delicate instrumentation

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and records information accurately.
  • Identifies, cleans, sorts, wraps, and properly sterilizes all instrumentation and instrument trays used in the hospital.
  • Performs high-level disinfection of endoscopes.
  • Responds to requests with appropriate quickness without disregard to sterile integrity.
  • Pulls add-on and STAT Surgery cases with the Case Cart System.
  • Locates surgery supplies/instruments located in SPD and delivers upon demand.
  • Documents and interprets all autoclave records.
  • Properly uses, handles, and disposes of hazardous materials used in the area and associated good safety practices.
  • Practices strict infection control habits.
  • Develops understanding of new instruments/equipment, location, use, method of cleaning, wrap, and sterilization.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and participates in the team process.
  • Receives outside instrumentation from other care providers and assumes responsibility for documentation and processing.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all words and actions within the Sterile Processing Department and Sky Lakes Medical Center.
  • Ability to obtain and interpret Instructions for Use (IFU).
  • Identifies and replaces worn or broken instruments and tags them with instructions for repair.
  • Is flexible with scheduling, working weekends, and taking call.
  • Ability to use computer for information, doctor preference cards, e-mail, and instrument tracking systems.
  • Develops a full understanding of all operational policies and procedures associated with sterility and reduction of patient/worker risk.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
  • Locates, exchanges, documents, and stocks all Buckets and Code carts which SPD is responsible for maintaining.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
