About The Position
Kokua is seeking certified Special Education substitute teachers for the 2026-27 school year to support schools in the Harlingen area. The role involves creating impactful moments that change students' perceptions of what's possible. Kokua, meaning 'to come together to fulfill a need' in Hawaiian, aims to connect students with classroom role models who can empower them. Substitute teaching offers the chance to positively contribute to the community, help alleviate the teacher shortage crisis, provide a flexible schedule (up to 5 days/week), add representation in the classroom, and offer autonomy in choosing teaching assignments and locations.
Requirements
- 1+ year(s) classroom teaching experience, preferably in a special education setting.
- Texas Teacher Certification in Special Education (EC-12) - proof of valid certification required.
- Confidence to manage a classroom of students.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world.
- Ability to pass state & federal background checks.
