About The Position
Kokua is seeking certified Special Education substitute teachers to support schools in San Antonio for the 2026-27 school year. The role involves creating impactful moments for students, helping to solve the teacher shortage crisis, and offering a flexible schedule. Substitute teachers will have the autonomy to choose assignments and locations, add representation to classrooms, and contribute positively to their community by sparking a love for learning. Kokua provides weekly paychecks, a quick hiring process, the opportunity to teach close to home, a potential foot in the door for full-time positions, W-2 employment, and a supportive community. The role also offers the chance to lead classrooms and create a safe, supportive learning environment.
Requirements
- 1+ year(s) classroom teaching experience, preferably in a special education setting
- Texas Teacher Certification in Special Education (EC-12) - proof of valid certification required
- Confidence to manage a classroom of students
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
- Ability to pass state & federal background checks
