About The Position

The Certified Senior Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacy operations under pharmacist supervision and in accordance with applicable state and federal requirements and company policies. The role includes assisting customers, processing prescriptions and claims, maintaining inventory, supporting clinical services, and helping improve pharmacy performance. The technician also coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers, supports relationships with local healthcare providers, and maintains required certification and continuing education.

Requirements

PTCB or ExCPT certification, except in Puerto Rico.
At least one year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire, except in Community Specialty Pharmacy, Health System Pharmacy locations, or where the role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Nice To Haves

Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Basic math skills, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Basic computer skills, such as starting and shutting down a computer, using a mouse, opening and closing programs, switching between programs, saving files, printing documents, and accessing information online.
Knowledge of store inventory control.

Responsibilities

Greet and assist customers and patients, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer service best practices.
Build strong relationships with valuable customers.
Assist with pharmacy practice under pharmacist supervision and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information accurately, fill prescriptions, verify medicines, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the company's Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable dispensing activities.
Register sales, handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Lead pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals; file claims for shipment overages, shortages, errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
Support pharmacy performance analysis and improvement, including reviewing prescription key performance indicators with the Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
Assist pharmacists with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples when applicable, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help maintain relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Support execution of the Pickup program.
Help maintain a clean, stocked, neat, and orderly Pharmacy Department.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in correct processes and tool use to improve efficiency.
Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and comply with company policies and procedures.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or maintain required state certification or registration.
Attend training, complete requested PPLs, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain current healthcare and pharmacy knowledge.
