About The Position

The Certified Senior Pharmacy Technician assists in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies. The role supports prescription processing, pharmacy workflow, inventory management, customer service, clinical services, and pharmacy performance. It also coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers on processes and tools, maintains required certification and knowledge, and completes assigned duties.

Requirements

PTCB or ExCPT certification, except in Puerto Rico.
At least one year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire, except in Community Specialty Pharmacy, Health System Pharmacy locations, or where the role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Nice To Haves

Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Basic math skills, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Basic PC skills, such as starting and shutting down a computer, using a mouse, opening and closing programs, switching between programs, saving files, printing documents, and accessing information online.
Knowledge of store inventory control.

Responsibilities

Greet and assist customers and patients, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer-service best practices.
Build strong relationships with valuable customers.
Assist in pharmacy practice under pharmacist supervision and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing policy.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information; fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications; verify medicines; and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Register sales, handle cash as required, and help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Lead pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; maintain knowledge of asset protection practices and file claims for shipment discrepancies or damaged prescription drugs.
Support the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in reviewing and improving pharmacy financial, customer-service, and inventory performance, including reviewing Rx KPIs with the Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
May assist pharmacists with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Support relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider detailing and outreach.
Support execution of the Pickup program.
Help maintain adequate supplies and keep the Pharmacy Department clean, neat, and orderly.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in correct processes and tools to improve pharmacy efficiency.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated program and/or maintain state-required certification or registration.
Attend training, complete requested PPLs, earn continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
