About The Position

The Certified Senior Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacy operations under pharmacist supervision and in accordance with applicable laws and company policies. The role serves customers, helps process prescriptions and claims, supports inventory and workflow management, and assists pharmacists with clinical services and relationships with local healthcare providers. The technician also coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers on processes and tools, maintains required certification and training, and completes other assigned tasks.

Requirements

PTCB or ExCPT certification, except in Puerto Rico.
At least one year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire, except in specified pharmacy settings and locations where the role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Nice To Haves

Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Basic math skills, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Basic PC skills, including operating a computer, using programs, saving and printing files, and accessing information online.
Knowledge of store inventory control.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and patients, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer-service best practices.
Build relationships with valuable customers and help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Assist in pharmacy practice under pharmacist supervision and follow state, federal, and company policies, including the Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing policy.
Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, fill prescriptions, verify medications, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Register related sales, collect and handle cash, and perform assigned clerical duties.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims in a timely and efficient manner.
Lead pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
Maintain knowledge of asset-protection techniques and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
Support the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in reviewing and improving pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance, including reviewing Rx KPIs with the Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
Assist pharmacists with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples when required, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Support relationships with local medical professionals and healthcare organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Support execution of the Pickup program.
Keep the Pharmacy Department adequately supplied, clean, neat, and orderly.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers on the correct use of processes and tools to improve pharmacy efficiency.
Comply with company policies, maintain respectful coworker relationships, and complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration.
Attend requested training, complete PPLs, earn continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge of developments in healthcare and pharmacy.
