About The Position

The Certified Senior Pharmacy Technician assists with pharmacy operations under the supervision of a pharmacist and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies. The role supports prescription processing, customer service, workflow, inventory management, clinical services, and pharmacy performance. It also coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers on processes and tools, helps maintain pharmacy relationships with the local medical community, and completes required training and continuing education.

Requirements

PTCB or ExCPT certification, except in Puerto Rico.
At least one year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire, except in Community Specialty Pharmacy, Health System Pharmacy locations, or locations where the role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Nice To Haves

Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Basic math skills, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Basic PC skills, such as using a mouse, opening and closing programs, switching between programs, saving and printing files, and accessing information online.
Knowledge of store inventory control.

Responsibilities

Greet and assist customers and patients, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer-service best practices.
Develop relationships with valuable customers.
Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, fill prescriptions, verify medications, and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies concerning errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
Follow the Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription-dispensing activities.
Register sales, handle cash as required, and help customers locate over-the-counter products.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and perform assigned clerical duties.
Lead pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, and damaged prescription-drug goods.
Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist with analyzing pharmacy financial, customer-service, and inventory performance data, including reviewing Rx KPIs with the Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
Assist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples when required, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Help build relationships with local medical professionals and organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Support execution of the Pickup program.
Help keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the correct use of processes and tools to improve pharmacy efficiency.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or maintain state-required certification or registration.
Attend training, complete requested PPLs, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.
