About The Position

The L&D Scrub Technician assists with patient care, setting up rooms for deliveries, etc., in the Labor & Delivery setting and is responsible for the preparation of, as well as providing, technical assistance to physicians during the performance of c-sections. He/she is responsible for care, cleaning, and maintenance of specialized equipment, instruments, rooms, and supplies. Basic patient care functions are performed within established guidelines under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No prior work experience required
  • HEALTHCARE PROVIDER (CPR)
  • CERTIFIED SCRUB TECH
  • NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROVIDER
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • BLS Certification (may be obtained within 6 months of employment).
  • NALS (NRP) Certification (May be obtained within first 6 months of employment).
  • The CST I is entry level CST that has recently graduated from an approved Surgical Technology program or an uncertified surgical technologist with 1 year experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient care, setting up rooms for deliveries.
  • Prepares for and provides technical assistance to physicians during c-sections.
  • Responsible for care, cleaning, and maintenance of specialized equipment, instruments, rooms, and supplies.
  • Performs basic patient care functions within established guidelines under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Participates in patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Responsible for knowledge of policies and procedures and standards related to the provision of safe medical care, including TJC, Georgia Board of Nursing, Infection Prevention, CMS, Specialty Organizations (AORN ACOG AWO).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to established national standards (AORN, The Joint Commission, etc.) and or departmental policy.
  • Demonstrates competency and ability to provide technical assistance to physicians during surgical invasive procedures based on departmental policy and or established national standards (AORN, The Joint Commission, etc.).
  • Able to scrub independently in all specialties.
  • Establishes and maintains the efficacy of the sterile field.
  • Utilizes instruments, equipment, etc., in an appropriate manner.
  • Responsibly manages resources in a conscientious manner.
  • Participates in the cleaning and storage of equipment in compliance with Infection Prevention standards.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives for the department and facility as directed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate and work effectively with others to promote safe, efficient care, exhibit the Tanner Standards of Behavior, and maintain confidentiality in compliance with the standards and policy for Private Medical Record.
  • Communicates with patients, visitors, and families in a manner which promotes patient satisfaction.
  • Responsible for documentation of patient care in compliance with policy and standards.
  • Knowledgeable in the review of data within the electronic record.
  • Knowledgeable in the management of orders utilizing the Provider Order Management system.
  • Demonstrates the behavior, skills, and knowledge to provide age appropriate care for all populations served to include the: ability to communicate, identify developmental level, physiologic norms, signs and symptoms of neglect, immunization status, and emotional response to stress.
  • Performs tasks involving contact with blood, blood-contaminated body fluids, other body fluids, or sharps (needles).
  • Directly works with Patients less than 12 months of age.
