About The Position

The Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) is responsible for performing standard and advanced respiratory care procedures for patients suffering from various cardiopulmonary disorders. This role also involves performing other examinations and procedures as directed under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Certified Respiratory Care Therapist - Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist - National - National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians, and other outside professionals.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of work flow.
  • Medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform activities such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, or extensive reading.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, performs routine respiratory care procedures including aerosol medication delivery, chest physiotherapy, oxygen and specialty gas administration, and cardio-pulmonary monitoring devices.
  • Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care for assigned patients, and provides ventilatory support during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Performs advanced respiratory care techniques, including invasive pressure monitoring (ICP, pulmonary artery catheters), cardiac output determinations, and administration of Nitric Oxide and other gases.
  • Assists physicians in the insertion of catheters as needed.
  • Performs arterial blood gas collection through line draws or punctures.
  • Conducts patient assessment and reassessment through observation, clinical data gathering, and response to therapy, reporting findings accurately and making referrals to appropriate disciplines.
  • Provides educational development through guidance and teaching, serving as a technical resource for patients, families, physicians, students, and other hospital staff regarding respiratory care procedures.
  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors.
  • Performs preventative and routine maintenance on respiratory care equipment and instruments.
  • Participates in departmental/hospital continuous improvement opportunities.
