About The Position

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will prepare prescribed solutions and administer anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. The CRNA will inform the physician of the patient's condition during anesthesia. This role involves performing pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documenting anesthesia notes on patient records. The CRNA will provide anesthesia care to a wide variety of patients from pre-term neonates to geriatrics, administering appropriate anesthetics in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist. Responsibilities include assisting in patient transport, maintaining adequate patient records, participating in teaching activities and continuing education programs, and demonstrating a high level of professionalism. The CRNA will also provide resuscitative care as indicated.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs approved programs of anesthesia.
  • Certified, or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Insurable by the medical malpractice insurer of MUSC for the required limits.
  • Master’s degree, or higher, with the concentration in Nurse Anesthesia (for those hired after March 1, 2019).
  • Demonstrates current competency in the clinical privileges extended.
  • Proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment.
  • Current knowledge in anesthesia practice.
  • Basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility.
  • Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required.
  • Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with surgeons, residents, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff.
  • Recognized as an APRN, or eligible, with current license to practice, or eligible to obtain practice in the state of South Carolina.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.

  • Works under the clinical supervision of the anesthesiologist and the administrative supervision of the CRNA manager.
