The Certified Power Cable Apprentice is responsible for the construction, maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of the underground electrical and distribution systems. Working with all voltage types, the incumbent is expected to maintain and repair underground powerlines and cables, and other associated equipment, such as insulators, conductors, lightening arrestors, switches, metering systems, transformers and lighting and control systems. They are also expected to splice and terminate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks. These duties will be performed to the level of applicable skills and knowledge of the incumbent, under the direction of a Certified Power Cable Person. Successful applicants may be rotated through the various work centres and departments to ensure familiarization with all aspects of Toronto Hydro’s distribution system. The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro. This posting is to fill up to 5 positions, at least one of which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.
