The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I primarily performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for the purpose of obtaining a blood specimen for analysis in the clinical laboratory and is under the supervision of the Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor. This role involves various duties including computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical tasks. The technician must possess adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology, demonstrate good communication and telephone etiquette, and proficiently use proper phlebotomy techniques and equipment for all age groups. Responsibilities extend to processing various types of specimens, stocking supplies, maintaining cleanliness of work areas and equipment, and operating automated laboratory instrumentation. Additional duties may include assisting with sample pick-up, sorting, and supporting pathology and inventory management. The department manager/director may assign other tasks as needed.
