Performs phlebotomy and specimen processing/handling; processes all specimen types to assure accurate type of registration, processing of specimens, and ordering tests. Maintains adequate supplies and participates in interdepartmental communication. The role involves interacting with patients of all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics, and requires adherence to high-potential blood-borne pathogen protocols. Key responsibilities include patient identification, specimen collection via various methods (venipuncture, heelstick, fingerstick), processing laboratory requests, maintaining HIPAA standards, managing paperwork, ensuring timely specimen processing, and consulting with clinical laboratory staff and healthcare professionals. The technician will also be involved in training CPT students and performing safety and maintenance logs.
