Performs phlebotomy and specimen processing/handling; processes all specimen types to assure accurate type of registration, processing of specimens, and ordering tests. Maintains adequate supplies and participates in interdepartmental communication. This role involves working with patients of all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics, and requires adherence to high-potential blood-borne pathogen protocols. The technician will be responsible for accurate patient identification, specimen collection via various methods, and processing laboratory requests in accordance with established procedures. Maintaining a clean work area, managing supplies, and ensuring timely processing of specimens are key aspects of the role. The position also involves communication with other departments, nurses, and physicians, as well as assisting in the training of CPT students and new hires. Daily, weekly, and monthly safety and maintenance logs, as well as downtime procedures, are also part of the responsibilities.
