About The Position

The Certified Phlebotomist PRN collects and prepares for transport laboratory samples taken from patients seen in the ambulatory health centers and clinics. This role requires age-specific knowledge and skills for appropriate interaction with staff, patients, families, and visitors, exhibiting courteous, respectful, and professional behavior. The phlebotomist will explain procedures, input and extract laboratory information via computer systems (LIS and HIS), and adhere to all Network, Division, and Departmental policies and procedures, including those related to ethics, compliance, quality improvement, HIPAA, safety, and risk management.

Requirements

• Must be a Certified Phlebotomist (CPT) through one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or American Medical Technologists (AMT); or National Healthcareer Association.

Nice To Haves

• 6 plus months of experience as a phlebotomist in a clinical setting.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).

Responsibilities

• Collects specimens by venipuncture and micropuncture on neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, using appropriate supplies and techniques.
• Accurately prepares specimens for transport.
• Performs special collection procedures, such as timed tests.
• Possesses age-specific knowledge and skills for appropriate interaction with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
• Exhibits courteous, respectful, and professional behavior.
• Facilitates specimen collection by explaining procedures to patients, families, care providers, or nursing personnel.
• Inputs and extracts laboratory information via computer system utilizing LIS and HIS.
• Participates in and adheres to Network, Division, and Departmental policies, procedures, Code of Ethics, Compliance, QI/PI, HIPAA, Fire/Safety/Infection Control, Patient Safety, Risk Management activities, and established government and regulatory specifications.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
