About The Position

This position prepares medication orders, delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas. The technician will also credit usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy, assist pharmacists with audits, and complete assigned unit inspections. Responsibilities include restocking automated medication dispensing machines, tackle boxes, and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and completing the check-in/check-out process. The role also involves communicating stock utilization and ordering needs, compounding and labeling extemporaneous liquid and solid products, and preparing IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes according to strict policies and procedures. The technician must maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and Trinity Health's policies to ensure ethical and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA.
  • PTCB nationally certified technicians do NOT require HS diploma or GED.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire and proof of.
  • Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medication orders.
  • Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
  • Credits to the patient and restocks usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
  • Assists the pharmacists with audits and completes assigned unit inspections.
  • Restocks automated medication dispensing machines.
  • Restocks tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and completes check in/out process.
  • Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
  • Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
  • Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes following strictly described, specific policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
