Part Time Certified Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient
About The Position
Vanderbilt University Hospital is hiring a part-time Certified Pharmacy Technician for the Inpatient Central Pharmacy. The technician performs pharmacy tasks in direct support of a pharmacist’s duties, with occasional guidance and direct pharmacist supervision. Work contributes to preparing and/or dispensing medications for patient administration. The role also provides customer service by responding to phone requests and routing calls when needed, and applies departmental inventory-control processes. The position requires 20 hours per week, with shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The schedule includes every third weekend and four holidays per year. Applicants must hold Certified Pharmacy Technician certification through PTCB or NHA to be considered. The technician must complete required training and maintain competency as determined by area leadership.
Requirements
- Certified Pharmacy Technician certification through either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
- Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program.
- Relevant work experience; the listed experience level is less than one year.
- Complete all required training and maintain competency as determined by area leadership.
Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists with the preparation, dispensing, and/or distribution of medications.
- Apply departmental processes regarding inventory control.
- Perform activities as directed by pharmacists and/or pharmacy managers in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and hospital policies.
- Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
- Operate computer systems and use relevant technology.
- Answer phone requests and route calls to the appropriate person when unable to provide the requested information.
- Complete required training and maintain competency in the certified technician role.
