About The Position
The Certified Pharmacy Technician I assists with the preparation and distribution of medications. This role requires specialized pharmacy education, training, and certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or a comparable entity. The Certified Pharmacy Technician I is eligible for advanced technician positions based on job performance and successful completion of requirements for advancement outlined in the Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder criteria grids.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- No experience.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required
- Certified Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required or Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required

Responsibilities
- Receives and stocks deliveries of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
- Prepares, packages, and labels medications prior to dispensing.
- Delivers medications to care areas within the hospital.
- Delivers medications to off-site locations.
- Manages pharmacy inventory management, including use of electronic inventory management systems.
- Monitors product expirations and removes outdated stock from inventory.
- Responds to product recalls.
- Compounds non-sterile and sterile medication preparations.
- Cleans and disinfects procedures.
- Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones and maintaining adequate supplies.
- Identifies at least one area of specialized skill or expertise.
- Trains/mentors new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
- Maintains sufficient additional criteria as outlined in the Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder criteria grids.
- Provides outstanding customer service to all customers.
- Fosters teamwork by demonstrating caring behaviors.
- Practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patients, visitors, and staff by complying with all applicable safety regulations.
- Reports actual errors, potential errors, and hazardous/unsafe conditions.
- Protects sensitive patient data per HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
