About The Position

This role supports ambulatory and clinic-based pharmacy operations with a primary focus on sterile compounding and infusion workflow. The technician is responsible for preparing medications in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards, supporting patient care through timely and accurate medication deliveries to clinics and the Infusion Center. The position also supports the Investigational Drug Services Team with sterile compounding preparations as needed and ensures compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards related to medication safety for almost 30 clinics. The technician prepares sterile and non-sterile medications, performs aseptic technique, and assists in the preparation and handling of hazardous medications. Responsibilities also include supporting inventory management and procurement, and participating in quality assurance activities.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician through either PTCB or NHA.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - National Healthcareer Association
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - Tennessee
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
  • Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Fundamental Awareness)
  • Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution (Novice)
  • Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Novice)
  • Drug Inventory & Records Management (Novice)

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
  • Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.
  • Performs activities as directed by Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy Managers in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Operates computer systems and utilizes technology.
  • Prepares sterile and non-sterile medications in accordance with USP <797> and <800> standards and organizational policies.
  • Performs aseptic technique, including proper garbing, hand hygiene, and environmental control practices within the IV room.
  • Assists in the preparation and handling of hazardous medications in alignment with NIOSH guidelines.
  • Supports inventory management and procurement to facilitate patient care.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities, including documentation, auditing, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provides customer service by answering phone requests and triaging calls to the appropriate person if they cannot answer the requested information.
