Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines, the Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures by interpreting, transcribing, and preparing medications for dispensing. They fill orders with appropriate medications for review and approval by a Registered Pharmacist and perform various related technical, clerical, and supply duties. The specific duties may vary depending on the work location (e.g., outpatient retail pharmacy, inpatient hospital pharmacy, infusion pharmacy) or shift assignment. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This role is part of a professional career pathway, building upon the skills of a Pharmacy Technician I and II.
