About The Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician will assist in the preparation and filling of all medications necessary for the oncology service line for inpatient and outpatient services. This role supports all department initiatives and daily workflow/maintenance of the oncology satellite and all patients. The position will be rotating between day and evening shifts per department needs, reporting to the Oncology Pharmacy Supervisor, under the general direction of the Department Director, and in conjunction with direct supervision by oncology staff pharmacists.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of previous hospital pharmacy technician experience.
  • 1 year of Sterile compounding experience
  • Strong knowledge of metric system conversions and calculation of ratio and proportions.
  • Passing score of 90% on calculation exam, aseptic preparation exam, safe handling of hazardous drugs and practicum.
  • CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • Performs critical pharmacy calculations, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding and batching.
  • Utilizes aseptic technique during sterile compounding and satisfactorily passes validation testing as required by various regulatory agencies.
  • Proper disposal of any waste/expired medication/supply.
  • Utilizes various software programs and technical equipment including: Pharmacy Information Systems, Laminar flow hood, Automated IV fluid pump, Automated Packager / Repackaging / Label systems, Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Organization intranet (Bing) / Email.
  • Medication dispensing and distribution to patient areas.
  • Reorder and Restock of pharmacy inventory.
  • Restock inventory in department and nursing unit and restocks returns.
  • Evaluates stock for expired medications.
  • Performs necessary monitoring and documentation.
  • Performs various billing/crediting functions to ensure proper billing of all medications dispensed to patients to comply with hospital finance policies.
  • Ensures proper documentation of waste.
  • Reviews and completes assigned inspections every other month and maintains all competencies required by the department and the hospital to ensure all jobs performed are done properly.
