Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Pharmacy technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Computer keyboard knowledgeable and literate (typing 45-50 words per minute)
  • Accurately spell and type patient information onto manual and computer records
  • Able to lift 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of retail pharmacy experience
  • Bilingual recommended

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all prescription medications for dispensing under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Accurately interpret and process prescription information through the appropriate computer system.
  • Remove stock bottles from shelves and count out appropriate medications.
  • Label all necessary containers for prescription dispensing.
  • Ensure that prescriptions are checked by a pharmacist before being released to a patient.
  • Maintain and generate patient reports and records through the applicable computer system.
  • Maintain appropriate prescription records.
  • Maintain adequate medication inventories and pharmacy supplies, including ordering, receiving, unpacking, recording, and storing all medications and pharmacy supplies, and filing invoices.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the pharmacy department by accurately interpreting prescription information and recording patient information, allergies, and third-party information.
  • Conduct inventory of all medication as required, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Responsible for daily filing and orderly maintenance of prescription hard copies, invoices from distributors, and any necessary reports.
  • Responsible for maintenance of prior authorization information for individual patients.
  • Become familiar with all third-party plans and comfortable handling all prior authorizations for the retail pharmacy.
  • Record and maintain refrigerator temperature monitoring logs.
  • Demonstrate acceptable oral and written communication skills and courteous telephone operating skills.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments, manage workflow, and assist the pharmacist as necessary.
  • Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attending continuing education programs.
  • Provide a true and correct copy of renewal certificate.
  • Other duties as required.
