Position Purpose: The Certified Pharmacy Technician Senior (Non-Sterile Compounding) is an elevated collaborative role with pharmacy leadership. In addition to routine technician functions, Project Days are allotted to ensure development of our technician teams in the non-sterile compounding space. The functions assigned to the Non-Sterile Compounding role include implementation and training for: Kit Check, Non-Sterile Compounding, USP 795 compliance/educating/annual competencies. Mount Carmel also offers an elevated Certified Pharmacy Tech Senior – Sterile Compounding compensation program for all sterile compounding trained technicians, regardless of prior experience. Following completion of our standardized training program, all signed off technicians will be approved for elevated compensation

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program or previous relevant pharmacy technician experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Greater than 3 years' experience is preferred, with a background in USP 795 and Non-Sterile Compounding

Responsibilities

  • Establish a working identity with our Pharmacy Team and continue to build upon our culture
  • Ensures an environment of patient safety, promotes evidence-based practice and quality initiatives and exhibits professionalism
  • Maintain USP 795 performance standards for pharmacy staff
  • Special projects as assigned by managers, assisting with purchasing, developing staffing patterns and assignments for other technicians, prioritizing work responsibilities, and precepting/training newly hired technicians.
  • Preparation of non-sterile products (including hazardous medication), in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Repackaging of bulk oral medication using our Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots
  • Facilitating medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on our patient care units
  • Assists in the dispensing of orders/prescriptions through our pharmacy inventory system
  • Assists in inventory control by processing our daily Pharmacy Department order; assuring proper stock rotation, storage and appropriate expiration dating.
  • Escalates medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team
  • Assists the department with proper billing of patients and other units
  • Preparation of sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards
