About The Position

The goal of our Personal Training department is to encourage, coach and educate our members on the many benefits of regular exercise. As a Personal Trainer, you are responsible for motivating and inspiring clients by setting goals, providing feedback and accountability and creating enjoyable and effective fitness experiences. This is not a behind the scenes position – you are on the front-line letting your personality shine, connecting with members, offering complimentary advice, teaching classes and helping clean and maintain fitness equipment. You have an incredible opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.

Requirements

  • An NCCA accredited Personal Training Certification with a proctored exam completed prior to employment is required.
  • Candidates with a degree in a related field (e.g., Kinesiology, Exercise Science) have three months from their hire date to obtain a Personal Training Certification.
  • Maintain good standing for CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Motivating and inspiring clients by setting goals, providing feedback and accountability and creating enjoyable and effective fitness experiences.
  • Connecting with members, offering complimentary advice, teaching classes and helping clean and maintain fitness equipment.
  • Conducting daily walk through of the fitness center to ensure safe conditions.
  • Attending Fitness meetings and Fitness WAC University sessions.
  • Conducting personal training sessions according to WAC standards; confirming all appointments.
  • Helping clean and maintain all fitness equipment.
  • Keeping members informed of fitness center etiquette; striving to say yes whenever possible.
  • Following all responsibilities assigned by the Fitness Manager and General Manager.
  • Being available for regular communication with Team Members and Fitness Manager.
  • Following all Fitness department policies and procedures.
  • Catching Team Members doing things right and handing out WAC Bucks.
  • Participating in 90-day review and ongoing Team Member evaluations.
  • Communicating innovative ideas and suggestions to improve the department to the Fitness Manager.
  • Working scheduled sessions or finding a replacement; informing Fitness Manager of any changes.
  • Pursuing ongoing personal and professional development and sharing what you learn with others.
  • Following all Team Member policies and procedures.
  • Being a team player – striving to help out wherever and whenever possible.
  • Owning and immediately resolving pool problems to ensure member and guest safety.
  • Maintaining good standing for CPR certification.
  • Knowing the Safety Plan and Emergency Action Plan.
  • Following all insurance, liability and incident report procedures.
  • Regularly cleaning, sanitizing and organizing all equipment.
  • Reporting facility issues and broken equipment immediately to GM and Maintenance department.
  • Ethically communicating prices and sessions status with clients.
  • Accurately scheduling sessions in the member relations management system to ensure correct payroll.
  • Completing individual Fitness payroll by due dates and times.
  • Encouraging participation by providing promotions to clients, such as the Buy 100, Get 20 event.
  • Helping to exceed Fitness goals – both individually and department-wide.
  • Up-serving or recommending additional services of interest to our members at point-of-sale.
  • Acting as a liaison between all departments to promote the benefits of Personal Training.
  • Being aware of all programs, activities and events that are happening in the club.
  • Signing up for upcoming programs, activities and events to increase WAC product knowledge.
  • Utilizing the Program Process when creating and evaluating Fitness programs and events.
  • Assisting in Fitness events, such as Super Saturday.
  • Offering to write WAC Magazine articles for the Fitness section.
  • Participating in community organizations and positive social media to actively promote the club.
  • Working with member services to ensure a smooth transition from sign-up to Fit Sessions.
  • Welcoming all new participants to the fitness center and connecting them to other programs and events.
  • Utilizing the 5-foot rule – if you are within 5 feet of a member, engage them with the WAC greeting.
  • Creating memorable experiences.
  • Having fun while engaging members on the fitness floor.
  • Following up regularly with Fit Session participants and clients to ensure retention.
  • Being personally committed to fitness by actively going through the retention program sessions.
