About The Position

The position of Certified Personal Trainer is part-time and under the direct supervision of the Health & Fitness Manager. The Group Training Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer is responsible for providing education, making individual corrections to form, inspiring and motivating clients of all ages and fitness levels, encouraging, supporting and celebrating effort with the client and modeling a well-balanced, functional and FUN exercise program through positive coaching. The Certified Personal Trainer will provide encouragement and motivation and work to build community in the Fitness Center, including those working out on the fitness floor, using the track, taking group fitness classes and enjoying open gym. The Certified Personal Trainer is responsible for the supervision of the Fitness Center members using strength, stability and aerobic equipment. The Certified Personal Trainer needs to be flexible and be able to execute various tasks in the Fitness Center. The Certified Personal Trainer is expected to be a substitute for other trainers' Team Training classes when schedule permits and has the opportunity to work with one-on-one clients in addition to teaching Team Training classes.

Requirements

  • National Certification required from one or more of the following: American Council on Exercise (ACE) American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) International Sports Science Association (ISSA) National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) National Strength Professionals Association (NSPA)
  • Must be trained in the proper use of all Barrington Park District strength, stability and aerobic equipment in the Fitness Center
  • Must maintain current Certification for Certified Personal Training (and specialization certifications if applicable)
  • Current Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED within 3 months of hire
  • Employees are expected to maintain a positive working relationship with other employees

  • Employee must work effectively under deadlines in a variety of environments and elements
  • Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in exercise science, physiology, athletic training, physical education, anatomy or kinesiology is preferred
  • Group Training Instructor specialization is preferred
  • Group Training Instructor experience of 1+ year is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Weekly floor time maximum determined in relation to hours spent one-on-one training
  • Provide specialty classes such as Team Training pop-up classes, educational clinics that focus on specific modalities, such as barbell training or kettlebell basics.
  • Lead safe, effective and motivating Team Training classes that educate clients and promote a sense of community
  • Schedule all Certified Personal Training appointments per procedure
  • Confirm all Certified Personal Training appointments for the next business day
  • Contact new clients within 24 hours after assigned by Health & Fitness Manager
  • Administer Health Assessment/Strength and Flexibility testing
  • Assist with all Floor Training responsibilities listed below: Supervise Fitness Center members on the use of the strength and aerobic equipment
  • Assist Fitness Manager with special projects or tasks as needed
  • Greet members
  • Maintain a neat and orderly facility
  • Confirm Certified Personal Training appointments for the next business day
  • Maintain necessary forms and manuals including PAR-Qs, client sign-in sheets, client files including session notes, participant sign-in sheets, timesheets, schedule forms, exercise logs, and training schedules
  • Maintain client personal training files in client folders and store in Fitness Center per procedure
  • Conduct new member orientations and Fit Teen orientations
  • Sub Team Training classes as needed and Group Exercise classes if qualified to teach
  • Assist other Certified Personal Trainers if help is needed
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings
  • Complete the assigned equipment cleaning procedures
  • Be punctual and prepared for each Certified Personal Training session
  • Review PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) for each client and store in designated, secure location in Fitness Center
  • Follow all procedures and guidelines as presented in the policy manual
  • Wear proper uniform while training
  • Attend staff training and/or staff development sessions
  • Attend special Fitness Center events
  • Provide fitness challenges, trainer tips and other newsletter entries
  • Create and lead educational and interactive workshops for patrons and/or staff
  • Perform any other duties, as assigned by Health and Fitness Manager
