About The Position

Certified Personal Trainers are responsible for developing and implementing individualized workout regimens and conducting fitness assessments for members. This role involves designing customized fitness programs, maintaining documentation, conducting fitness assessments, and providing safe and effective instruction on equipment. The schedule varies depending on client/member needs, with approximately 20-25 hours worked per week. The position requires working as a Wellness Consultant at a lower rate until a clientele is built.

Requirements

  • Current national Personal Trainer certification as recognized by the YMCA is required.
  • Experience in developing personalized exercise programs for general populations and for people with specific concerns (obesity, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, etc.).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in personal training instruction.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR and First aid certification required.
  • Experience in conducting scientifically valid fitness assessments.
  • Must possess effective motivation and communication skills, interpersonal skills, and sales and marketing skills.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to perform superior work without direct supervision.
  • Must be customer service oriented and able to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement customized and individualized fitness programs for members based on their current fitness levels, physical challenges, preferences and goals.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive written documentation of each member's program.
  • Accurately document each training session as required by current YMCA of Greater Cleveland Personal Training policies and procedures.
  • Conduct fitness assessments and evaluations.
  • Design exercise programs for a variety of participants by combining individual health and fitness goals with fitness assessment results.
  • Provide safe and effective instruction of all equipment and work at skill level appropriate for the particular member.
  • Demonstrate and teach Wellness Center policies and etiquette (wiping down equipment after use, re-racking weights, etc.).
  • Offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise programs and/or use of equipment.
