Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in peer support or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mental health or substance use recovery setting.
  • Personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges and demonstrated recovery.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment, preferably within behavioral health services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients and team members.
  • Ability to provide empathetic support and establish trust with individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Proficiency in documenting client interactions and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available for mental health and substance use recovery.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of email and electronic health records systems.

Responsibilities

  • Offer one-on-one peer support to clients, sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and motivation.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to develop and implement individualized recovery plans.
  • Facilitate group sessions that promote mutual support and shared experiences among clients.
  • Assist clients in identifying and accessing community resources and services to aid in their recovery journey.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the organization and the broader community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in peer support and behavioral health.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all clients.
