Requirements

  • Pennsylvania Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass Act 33 and State Police background checks.
  • Self‑identified current/former recipient of mental health or co‑occurring services.
  • At least 12 months of paid or volunteer experience within the past 3 years (one year of recent education may substitute).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an active member of the Recovery Support and CPS Teams.
  • Use personal lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.
  • Help individuals develop personalized Recovery Service Plans.
  • Facilitate identification of strengths, supports, and community resources.
  • Conduct regular meetings with clients, documenting progress per program standards.
  • Provide education on recovery tools (e.g., WRAP), self‑help, mutual support, and orientation for new participants.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing to support behavior change and combat negative self‑talk.
  • Support individuals in community integration activities (social, educational, advocacy, etc.).
  • Assist individuals in setting and achieving recovery goals, improving social and interpersonal functioning.
  • Refer individuals to supportive services and communicate service successes or gaps to supervisors.
  • Maintain CPS certification and attend required trainings.
  • Safeguard confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, fire safety, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and promote a positive image of RHD.
  • Document all services accurately and completely.
  • Work primarily in the community (approx. 80% of time).
  • Maintain professionalism and exercise sound judgment.
