About The Position

The Community Service Board of Middle Georgia is seeking a qualified individual to serve as our next Certified Peer Specialist for our IC3 (Intensive Customized Care Coordination) program. The selected candidate will be a professional individual with lived experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Lived experience as a parent/guardian to a child with a behavioral health diagnosis or previous substance use
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Office Products
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines accordingly

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use or working with individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities
  • Hold one of the following certifications: CPS-P, CPS-MH, CPS-AD or CARES

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in articulating personal goals for recovery and wellness
  • Support individuals in articulating the objectives necessary to reach their recovery and wellness goals and link with others within the workforce through collaboration and problem-solving to progress toward peers' goals
  • Documents progress notes by assisting peers in identifying strengths, recovery & wellness goals; setting objectives; identifying barriers; recognizing and reporting progress peers have made toward meeting their objectives; and understanding and utilizing specific interventions necessary to support peers in meeting their recovery and wellness goals
  • Complete progress notes no later than 24 hours after delivering the service and have notes finalized within seven days of service, with zero instances of noncompliance
  • Support peers in determining recovery and wellness interventions based on peers' life goals identified on the IC3 Action Plan
  • Utilize CPS-specific training techniques, as well as implement PEARLS training techniques, to build rapport and a peer-based relationship to support and encourage peers' life journeys
  • Will utilize own unique recovery experience by role-modeling the value of every peer's recovery experience; supporting peers in obtaining decent and affordable housing of their choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive environment; modifying more restrictive environments; and demonstrating effective coping techniques and self-help strategies through examples from their own lived experience
  • Maintain working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field; continue to develop and share recovery-oriented materials with other CPSs; attend continuing education sessions offered by the CPS Project; and attend relevant seminars, meetings, and in-service training whenever offered
  • Communicate active acceptance of peers and their life goals and communicate accurate information to others within the workforce in a professional and courteous manner
  • Hold peers being served with respect and consideration, acting with an empathetic attitude by suspending and interrupting bias and blame
  • Will provide peer services on a weekly basis to each peer on the caseload, with a minimum of two visits monthly
  • Provides community transition planning to peers who are in CSU, PRTF, YDC, jail, or RYDC placement two times monthly instead of peer services; in accordance with DBHDD and IC3 Program Guidelines
  • Community Transition Planning is expected to be provided when youth are in CSU, YDC, RYDC or PRTF placement a minimum of two times monthly
  • Will obtain (if not already certified) and maintain continuing education to uphold Certified Peer Specialist certification annually, or as deemed by certification standards
  • All other duties as assigned
