About The Position

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) plays a crucial role in assisting clients in articulating their recovery goals, identifying steps towards recovery, and recognizing barriers. The PRS helps individuals leverage their strengths in daily living and recovery skills, teaching problem-solving, managing negative self-talk, building social support, and self-advocacy. They also intervene, coordinate, and facilitate connections to care as directed by the clinical team, completing necessary assessments and protocols.

Requirements

  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to meet communication requirements of certification.
  • Basic computer literacy is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, have lived experience receiving mental health, substance use or gambling treatment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of recovery.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • PRS Certification is required. Must be able to verify completion of state-approved training program and passing score on certification exam.
  • Lived Experience with Mental Illness/ Substance Use or Gambling Disorder
  • Willing to share personal recovery story to assist others
  • Assist clients in determining reasonable and holistic steps moving into recovery and identifying barriers to recovery goals

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within the criminal justice system preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verbalize understanding of what recovery means and articulate it to others.
  • Assist clients with identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills.
  • Assist staff in identifying program elements that are supportive or barriers to recovery.
  • Facilitate evidence based protocols, safety plans, complete screens and risk assessments as trained.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to partner with Centerstone programs and community partners.
  • Coordinate and assist with crisis intervention/ connection to care.
  • Coordinate referrals to inpatient, residential behavioral health/mental health/substance treatment.
  • Transport clients to appointments and to access resources.
