Banner Children's Hospital at Desert NICU is a 76-bed unit divided into high acuity ICU patients and lower acuity patients. The ICU side has an open pod layout with six beds per pod, while the CCN (lower acuity) side has private rooms allowing parents space to room in and learn how to care for their baby before going home. The unit serves a diverse population of patients including micropremies, neuro patients, cardiac anomalies, surgical patients, ECMO, and whole body cooling. The hospital utilizes a family-centered care model with an interdisciplinary team approach, including 24-hour Neonatology coverage, development therapists, Nutritionists, PT/OT, SLP, and lactation support. Patient Care Assistants in the NICU have a diverse scope of roles, sometimes assisting nurses with well babies learning to feed and grow, and are cross-trained to HUC, tech, and formula tech roles. The technician role involves cleaning equipment and stocking supplies, while the formula technician role involves preparing specialty formulas vital to the NICU patient population. This is a full-time day shift position, working three 12-hour shifts (6 AM-6:30 PM) and every third Saturday/Sunday. The position is located at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, which is recognized as one of Phoenix's Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report and is one of Arizona's largest and most comprehensive hospitals. The facility features a 76-bed NICU, a 24-bed PICU, six pediatric ORs, and a 22-bed ED, along with dedicated pediatric rehab, radiology, oncology, and hematology capabilities.
