About The Position

This role is responsible for patient care, including rooming patients, collecting assessment data, administering medications, and performing patient care procedures. The technician will assist physicians with treatments, testing, refractometry, and examinations. Key duties include performing various diagnostic tests such as retinoscopy, refractometry, A/B scans, photography, fluorescein angiography, corneal/disc topography, assisting in surgery, conducting low vision evaluations, visual fields, and applanations. The position also involves maintaining patient flow, providing patient and family education, documenting patient care, responding to phone calls, triaging patients by phone, and following up on patient care. Chart review and participation in Quality Assurance are also required. The role may involve working alternate shifts and weekends, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Certified by JCAHPO as a technician required.
  • Good interpersonal/communicative skills needed.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Education as a paraprofessional in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to incoming telephone calls and performing telephone triaging of patients.
  • Following up on patient care as needed.
  • Reviewing and maintaining charts.
  • Participating in QA & I.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
