This role involves performing preliminary examinations for ophthalmic patients, including recording history, testing visual acuity, intra-ocular pressure, neutralizing lenses, performing refractions, and screening color tests. The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant will also conduct special tests as ordered by physicians, such as keratometer readings, visual fields, GDX, topography, and axial length measurements. Responsibilities include managing patient and pharmacy phone calls, assisting with prescription refills, setting up and cleaning up after minor surgical procedures, and maintaining ophthalmic equipment. The role also involves educating patients on post-treatment care and retrieving medical reports via computer.
