About The Position

We are seeking a skilled, motivated and caring Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our collaborative Acute Care Rehabilitative Services team. Working under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA will provide therapeutic interventions to promote independence, safety, and functional recovery. Requirements

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist patients safely using proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods in a fast‑paced hospital setting.
  • Ability to safely operate rehabilitation equipment and adapt tasks for patients with medical devices (e.g., IV lines, telemetry, oxygen).

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy treatments as outlined in the Occupational Therapist’s established plan of care.
  • Assist patients with ADL retraining, functional mobility, therapeutic activities, upper‑extremity strengthening, cognitive strategies, and compensatory strategy training.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in functional status to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Document treatment sessions in accordance with New Jersey state regulations and facility policies.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on safe techniques, adaptive equipment, and discharge recommendations.
  • Always maintain patient safety, especially when managing medically complex or high‑acuity cases.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary communication with PT, SLP, nursing, case management, and physicians to support optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assist with equipment management.
