About The Position

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant ("COTA") provides Occupational Therapy services to patients of the Driscoll Children’s Health System under the plan of care and direction of an occupational therapist. To assist with coordination of specific departmental activities and/or services.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution as an occupational therapist assistant.
  • Current Texas Licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Current Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current CPR certification (or will complete within 90 days upon hire)

Responsibilities

  • Educates patient and family regarding plan of care and progress.
  • Complies with clinical documentation requirements.
  • Provides family with instruction and understanding of home program as appropriate with patients and family members.
  • Participates in a variety of patient care related team meetings.
  • Participates in departmental meetings.
  • Participates in process improvement.
  • Communicates with referring and community physicians to maximize patient care, establish a professional relationship and develop a consistent referral base.
  • Informs manager of any difficulties.
  • Maintains billable productivity level as required.
  • Generates suggestions for improving work processes.
  • Participates in holiday/week-end on call rotation when needed.
  • Provides in-services within the department, hospital and professional and lay communities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use computer/software applications required for the job.
  • Complies with infection control responsibilities in the department.
  • Assumes the role of care coordinator when appropriate.
  • Will occasionally drive for Driscoll Children’s Hospital business.
  • May occasionally participate in a community visit for the benefit of the patient.
  • May be required to work at an alternate location (inpatient or outpatient based on skill set) to support patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates flexibility regarding departmental scheduling needs including but not limited to compliance with family-friendly hours, floating between settings and locations, offering hours that support the patient population, etc.
