About The Position

Join UPMC Western Maryland as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and make a meaningful impact helping patients regain independence. In this day shift role (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) with rotating weekends and holidays, you’ll primarily support acute care patients, with coverage in CIRU as needed, delivering hands-on treatments and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) while following the established Occupational Therapy Plan of Care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) with associates degree as an occupational therapy assistant.
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant Licensed or eligible for licensure in practicing state
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily occupational therapy treatments and ADL support based on the plan of care developed by the Occupational Therapist. Tailor interventions to meet each patient’s needs across acute care and CIRU settings.
  • Monitor patient progress and response to treatment, sharing timely updates and recommending plan modifications to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Maintain accurate, timely electronic documentation of all treatments, patient status changes, and cancellations in compliance with UPMC standards and state practice acts.
  • Assist with standardized testing as requested, accurately recording results to support appropriate treatment planning and outcomes.
  • Provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients across all age groups within the COTA scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with therapists and care team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care and achievement of functional goals.
  • Rotate between acute care and CIRU as needed to support patient care and departmental needs.
  • Support and guide clinical support staff in accordance with state regulations and department expectations.
  • Complete charge capture and productivity requirements accurately to reflect services provided.
  • Participate in team meetings, in-services, and ongoing education to support professional growth and department success.
