About The Position

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist, you will support the patient evaluation, treatment, development of care plans, and the completion of all required documentation and communication. Follows established physical therapy standards, as well as all Bethesda’s policies, procedures, and state regulations.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program and licensed in the state of MN.
  • One to three years of prior experience in a rehabilitation setting, such as acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient clinics, SNFS, long-term care, assisted living, memory care, or home health.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt to various work settings and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the licensed occupational therapist, optimizes the physical abilities and skills of patients by assisting in the performance of the following activities: assisting in the screening of residents/clients; implementing treatment for assigned residents/clients; delivering treatment to achieve identified objectives according to the established treatment plan; appropriately documenting progress toward identified objectives and communicating resident/client status and needs to the resident/client, the residents/clients family, the staff and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Assists in the selection of Occupational Therapy techniques/media and in the sequence of activities, adapts techniques/media as indicated by resident performance and following consultation with the Occupational Therapist. No major modification to the treatment plan is made without prior consultation with the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assists in establishing and modifying individual resident/client schedules in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist and other team members.
  • Assists the Occupational Therapist in identifying a problem list, long-term goals, short-term goals, and a treatment plan.
  • Monitors patient’s response to intervention and consults with Occupational Therapist if modification is indicated.
  • Adapts treatment under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to meet the individual needs of the resident/client.
  • Participates in resident/client, family, and staff education.
  • Confers formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total rehabilitation program of the patient.
  • Adheres to facility policies and procedures regarding documentation of occupational therapy services.
  • Provides in-service education to the members of the resident/client care team and to members of the community.
  • Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
  • Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures, and efficiency standards.
  • Follows universal precautions, facility infection control guidelines, sanitation and safety standards of practice in all work and activities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Report for and leave the work area on a timely basis.
  • Participate in the annual performance evaluation process.
  • Participate in all required in-service programs at Bethesda.
  • Maintain professional conduct and a positive, collaborative attitude toward staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Be willing to learn and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
