About The Position

To act under the general direction of the Director of Special Services. To assist with the evaluation of students and the development of an individualized educational plan to meet the specific needs of students who qualify for occupational therapy services. To carry out the overall goals and objectives of the IEP as developed under the direction of the occupational therapist.

Requirements

  • Possess a knowledge of Public Law 101-476 (I.D.E.A.), Rules and Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities in Wyoming Public Schools, and local rules and regulations governing services to students with disabilities.
  • Possess a knowledge of basic computer commands to run software related to word processing applications on a personal computer.
  • Possess the ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.
  • Possess the ability to enunciate clearly and communicate positively throughout the workday.
  • Possess the ability to calculate accurately when reviewing test results and compiling numerical data in the diagnostic phase of evaluation of a child to meet established criteria for a disabling condition.
  • Possess visual acuity, aided or non-aided, to read and interpret accurately written reports of a technical nature.
  • Possess the ability to accurately write reports of a technical nature and have the skill necessary to paraphrase the same to parents or other staff members in a fashion that everyone is able understand.
  • Possess the ability to work with various personality types.
  • Possess sound emotional judgement.
  • Proper certification issued by the Occupational Therapy License Board of the State of Wyoming
  • Clinical experience either by working within a public-school setting or completion of a required clinical experience as prescribed by a training program to be eligible for certification by the Occupational Therapy License Board of the State of Wyoming.
  • A minimum of successful completion of a certified training program in the area of Occupational Therapy Assistance from an accredited college or university system.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with evaluation of specified students within the school district from referrals.
  • Assists with the design, development, and delivery of services prescribed in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student that meets the qualifications for direct services for occupational therapy as defined by local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates the efforts and completes all necessary paperwork and forms to enroll a student in Occupation Therapy Services within the school district.
  • Acts as a member of the multi-discipline assessment team member for the student being enrolled in occupational therapy.
  • Collaborates with any teaching staff member in development of a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of students within the classroom(s) in need of occupational therapy.
  • Promotes positive public relations with the community and within the school district by using positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills at all times.
  • Assists with the development of new programs to identify existing and potential programs needed to meet the needs of students in the area of occupational therapy.
  • Assists with the development of training staff members to carry out existing therapy routines for students in a daily setting in the classroom(s).
  • Assists with the development of training parents to carry out existing therapy routines for students in a daily setting in the student's home.
  • Provide technical assistance in the repair and modification of assistive devices that may be utilized to meet the specific needs of students receiving direct occupational therapy as part of their total education program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
