About The Position

The COTA Assists an Occupational Therapist in a Skilled Nursing Facility environment with rehabilitative activities for patients who may have developmental, physical and emotional impairments. Prepares equipment for treatment and may perform clerical duties for the department. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Occupational Therapy field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum education level of an associate degree from an accredited program.
  • Licensed by the New York State Office of the Professions and Practices Occupational Therapy according to the state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides occupational therapy services according to directions of the Occupational Therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care. These exclude evaluation, re-evaluation and MDS scoring but include hands off screenings.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the Occupational Therapist responses to treatment and any changes in the resident 's/ patient 's condition.
  • Treats the resident/patient in accordance with the care plan after the Occupational Therapist performs the initial evaluation to establish treatment goals, frequency, duration, and specific modalities to be used in accordance with the physician's orders and the Occupational Therapist.
  • Follows treatment program and goal for improved resident/patient function as established by the Occupational Therapist
  • Contacts the Occupational Therapist directly for resident/patient reports and care as needed.
  • Submits appropriate written report of the resident's/patient's progress at the designated intervals to the physician and/or the Occupational Therapist. All notes written by the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will be cosigned by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Consults with Occupational Therapist to make necessary changes to plan, frequency and duration of treatment.
  • Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local, and facility-maintained standards of care and ethics and policies concerned with the practice of Occupational Therapy and among other things, personnel qualifications.
  • Participates in staff development and in-service education activities.
  • Meets productivity and utilization expectations as established by the company.
  • Completes administrative, billing, clinical documentation, and reports in a timely manner and accurately.
  • Follows established policies and procedures or the company.
  • Maintains Occupational Therapy equipment.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Must be able to safely support 50-lO0lbs
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patient, resident and staff.
