About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant provides attentive, hands-on overnight care to residents at St. Luke's Hospital Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Working from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., the CNA supports people recovering from illness, surgery, or hospitalization, providing patient-centered care that promotes comfort, dignity, healing, and independence. The role involves routine overnight monitoring, daily living assistance, documentation, and communication with nurses and fellow aides, including clear handoff information for the daytime team.

Requirements

• Active Certified Nursing Assistant certification in Iowa, or eligibility to obtain it.
• Current CPR certification, or willingness to complete it.
• Ability to work the full third-shift schedule, 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., consistently.
• Physical stamina to assist with lifting and transfers and spend extended time on your feet.
• Strong attention to detail in documenting observations and recognizing subtle changes overnight.
• Clear, kind communication and a genuine commitment to resident dignity.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in skilled nursing, transitional care, or long-term care.
• A positive, teachable attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
• Monitor residents throughout the night, perform routine checks, and respond promptly to call lights and requests for help.
• Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, and other observations, and report changes to nursing staff.
• Assist with safe repositioning, transfers, and ambulation to prevent falls and promote comfort.
• Keep resident rooms and common areas clean, orderly, and welcoming.
• Offer reassurance and companionship to residents.
• Collaborate with nurses and fellow aides and communicate clearly at shift change so daytime teams have a complete picture of each resident's night.
