About The Position

AltaPointe Health is hiring a PRN Certified Nursing Assistant for its hospital setting. EastPointe Hospital is a private, freestanding psychiatric hospital for adults in Daphne, Alabama. Its clinicians assess and treat adults experiencing psychiatric crises, with a focus on stabilizing symptoms and preventing psychiatric commitment. Patients receive 24-hour clinical care during an estimated three-to-seven-day stay, with the goal of returning home or transitioning to the least restrictive appropriate level of care.

The CNA performs basic clinical tasks and supports consumers’ daily living needs, safety, observation, and psychiatric rehabilitation goals under the direction of a licensed nurse. The role involves monitoring and documenting consumer behavior and progress, communicating and collaborating with the treatment team, and recognizing and deescalating crisis situations. CNAs may provide one-to-one coverage for consumers on special status and may be assigned to any unit at BayPointe or EastPointe based on facility needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification in Alabama.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements described, including lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting with restraint or hold procedures, and moving quickly to assist coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, blood sugar readings, intake and output information, and EKGs as needed.
• Assist consumers with activities of daily living, including bathing, positioning, and feeding, under the direction of a licensed nurse.
• Provide ongoing monitoring and interaction with consumers, including one-to-one coverage for consumers on special status when assigned.
• Assess consumer behavior and document and submit information according to policy and standards.
• Assist consumers with personal care, activities, current events, and safety issues.
• Train consumers in basic living skills in accordance with their psychiatric rehabilitation goals.
• Recognize crisis situations and deescalate or resolve them using appropriate principles and communication.
• Collaborate effectively with treatment team members and other staff.
• Work on any BayPointe or EastPointe unit as facility needs require.
• Model appropriate behavior, including communication skills, grooming, and manners.
• Meet AltaPointe productivity standards and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Document promptly, legibly, clearly, and concisely, including consumer problems, daily progress notes, basic living skills progress, treatment goals addressed, and services provided.
• Report accidents or driving violations to a supervisor and Human Resources.
• Accept and apply suggestions for improvement and actively enhance skills.
• Participate in Performance Improvement activities and AltaPointe committees as required.
• Follow AltaPointe policies and procedures and attend appropriate in-service training and workshops.
• Seek supervision and consultation as needed.
• Treat consumers with care, dignity, and compassion; respect privacy and confidentiality; and respond sensitively and calmly to consumers’ and families’ needs and differences.
• Assist consumers and visitors as needed and cooperate pleasantly with others.
