About The Position

This recruitment is for multiple Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) positions across all Department of Public Health (DPH) facilities, including Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the CNA performs various routine duties related to the care of medically or mentally ill acute or sub-acute patients. This includes providing direct patient care, observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and physical status, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and performing related tasks. The role is part of the treatment team and requires establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with patients, documenting care according to department standards, and communicating with medical providers and staff. CNAs may also implement treatment plans, provide one-to-one care, collect specimens, and adhere to health, safety, and infection control policies. The position requires effective time management.

Requirements

Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health.
Status must show "Valid" at: https://cvl.cdph.ca.gov/SearchPage.aspx
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate is required for some positions.
Possession of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT-1) Certificate, issued by the State of California Department of Health Services, is required for those positions that perform phlebotomy.
CNA certificate MUST be issued by the California DPH.
If CNA certification was NOT issued by California DPH, transfer to California is required at https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CHCQ/LCP/Pages/CNA-FAQ-Reciprocity-CA.aspx.
One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions.
Candidates who do not possess such a certification may be appointed but must obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout employment.
Knowledge of treatment tools for medically and mentally ill acute and sub-acute patients.
Knowledge of the principles of patient care duties.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Oral communication ability.
Written communication ability.
Ability to observe and identify changes in patient’s condition.
Ability to assist patients in and out of bed, into bath, and in and out of wheel chair.
Ability to interact effectively with patients, family members, and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

Provides routine patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards under direct supervision and as part of the treatment team.
Establishes and maintains a therapeutic and/or medical relationship with patients.
Reviews patient's admission documentation and notes pertinent facts regarding diagnoses and treatment history.
Documents care according to department standards.
Maintains constant and continuous communication with medical providers and staff.
Reviews and implements treatment plans and provides one-to-one care when essential to treatment plans, as directed by licensed staff.
Observes, records and reports patient medical, social and psychiatric behavior and physical conditions.
Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning by reporting observations and concerns and by asking questions.
Attends and participates in patient groups, case conferences, staff meetings and in-service training programs.
Completes procedures and specimen collection including phlebotomy, as assigned.
Adheres to health, safety, and infection control policy and resource utilization.
Manages work time effectively, efficiently and productively.
Performs other duties as assigned/required.
