About The Position

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. It involves performing Nursing Support duties, providing basic care services to patients without an RN or LPN license, under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and potentially registered nurses. This is an organizational support or service role focusing on the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. It is a senior-level role requiring broad knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through extensive work experience, and may require vocational or technical education. The position works under limited supervision for routine situations, provides assistance and training to lower-level employees, and addresses non-routine problems requiring analysis.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent OR Four (4) years of health care or nursing experience.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide Certificate from an approved certifying organization.
  • One (1) year of experience in health care or nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in health care or nursing.
  • Coursework in EKG and Phlebotomy.
  • Bilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment, including obtaining vital signs, urinalysis, blood glucose, microalbumin, and A1C. Obtains, documents, and reconciles allergy and medication lists. Collects and prepares specimens and relevant documentation for transportation to off-site laboratory, ensuring accuracy in labeling and documenting.
  • Assists with office examinations, procedures, tests, and treatments. Administers appropriate injections to patients of all ages and draws blood specimens following office and CDC guidelines. Maintains patient education resources and provides instruction and education to patients as instructed by providers.
  • Anticipates necessary labs, reports, and consults the provider may need. Reconciles all lab results in EMR. Sends out patient reminder letters and maintains patient compliance scheduling.
  • Prepares and replenishes medical supplies, including vaccine inventory, and monitors medication refrigerator temperatures based on DPH requirements. Follows DPH protocols regarding the safe keeping of all medications and vaccines.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments and maintains diagnostic equipment. Performs quality control and records on all in-house testing (e.g., urine, strep, blood glucose monitors, pregnancy controls). Reports any malfunctions to BioMed. Arranges for replacement or upgrades to all medical devices.
  • Facilitates daily operations and responsibilities of the day-to-day patient flow within each designated area, acting as the first level “go-to person” for providers, clinical and clerical staff regarding troubleshooting issues such as patient complaints, billing questions, and registration issues.
  • Assists with provider schedules and staff schedules. Coordinates and/or provides appropriate coverage for vacation requests and sick calls.
  • Acts as an Electronic Medical Record “Super User,” attending regular EMR training sessions, distributing new information or workflows to providers and staff, and training new staff members on EMR.
  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and performance evaluation of staff, providing ongoing useful, objective, and constructive input. Facilitates the orientation of new and per-diem staff, including creating orientation schedules and training on both clinical and clerical duties.
  • Works to foster and facilitate a respectful and collaborative relationship between the nursing team and MA team to successfully meet site-specific and organizational goals.
  • Acts as a “subject matter expert” in the roles, duties, scope of practice, and work flows for other staff members.
