About The Position

This is a State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital which operates 24/7, 7 days a week. It currently has 223 buildings on campus with a capacity of 1,334 patients. Some patients as young as 13 yrs old. The hospital's current administration building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Two categories of patients are treated at the hospital; those civilly committed under Statute 394, who represent a small portion of the hospital's residents; and those forensically committed under Statute 916. The Civil portion of the hospital houses adult and elderly individuals who have been civilly committed to the hospital, and forensic residents who have been "stepped down" to the civil unit. The civil units are also known as Forensic Transition units. Forensic ward entry has security guards and a metal detector. Most patients are ambulatory young adults age 20-25. Facility also has a small geriatric dorm.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Must possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant license in Florida.
  • Must be BLS certified through the American Heart Association.
  • Must be able to complete full, two-week orientation at time of hire.
  • Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs., remain alert while on duty, and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of resident care as assigned by the nurse/shift supervisor, including activities of daily living, ambulation, mobility, and nutrition.
  • Observe, identify, and report resident concerns or needs to the shift supervisor.
  • Document information factually and objectively, within acceptable time frame as defined by facility policy.
  • Provide safe and supportive observation and effectively monitor assigned residents.
  • Complete assignments timely, completely, accurately and in a cooperative manner.
  • Provide the necessary assistance when giving residents the following activities of daily living nursing care: oral hygiene, bathing, dressing, and grooming, hair and nail care, shaving, toileting, eating and drinking, and mobility.
  • Assist with monitoring and accountability of residents to enable medical personnel to accomplish health related tasks.
  • Display professionalism throughout employment including, but not limited to, arriving to work on time, maintaining an accurate timesheet, and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.
  • Employees will be required to drive state vehicles transporting patients to outside facility doctor appointments and hospitals.
  • Some may be required to be a "sitter" with the patient during an outside hospital stay.
