About The Position

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists patients with activities of daily living to all patients and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment under the direction of and supervision of the RN/LPN in charge of the team or unit. Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include weekends and holidays. The role supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital. The CNA completes assigned daily duties, accepts reassignment to other units if necessary, and follows expected work practices, displaying thoroughness and accuracy. They are expected to work in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment, and to be well organized, accepting assignments willingly and accomplishing them quickly. The CNA anticipates problems and suggests solutions, helps with not specifically assigned duties, and works steadily and always keeps busy. The position requires maintaining knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff across all age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. The ability to work well with a diverse work team, under pressure with time constraints, and independently with minimal supervision is essential. Good mental health, emotional maturity, personal grooming, and hygiene are also important. The CNA must recognize and respect the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of patients, including their religious beliefs, and preserve the dignity and respect of all patients. The role also involves displaying knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures, and demonstrating knowledge of and practicing Universal Precautions. A willingness to perform a variety of minimal repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions while maintaining patience and tact, and possession of a genuine interest and concern for geriatric and disabled persons are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Successful completion of a vocational program for nursing assistants including the State of Illinois Competency Exam or completion of required portion of a RN program.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Compliance with Criminal Background Check requirements.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse work team.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good mental health and emotional maturity.
  • Good personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Recognition and respect for the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of patients, including their religious beliefs.
  • Preservation of the dignity and respect of all Patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from high school or GED is preferred.
  • CNA experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living to ensure their cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, and elimination in a manner conducive to the patient’s comfort and safety.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment under the direction of and supervision of the RN/LPN in charge of the team or unit.
  • Support and promote an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
  • Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
  • Notify nurse of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Keep written notes of specific assignments and record pertinent information about the patients.
  • Promptly answer call lights.
  • Transport patients as needed through the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of equipment, work, and storage areas.
  • Keep patient rooms neat and clean.
  • Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
  • Be knowledgeable of general hospital policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned daily duties.
  • Accept reassignment to other units if necessary.
  • Follow expected work practices.
  • Work in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.
  • Help with not specifically assigned duties.
  • Work steadily and always keep busy.
  • Perform a variety of minimal repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions and maintain patience and tact.
