About The Position

Provides and/or assists patients with activities of daily living such as grooming, oral hygiene, bath/shower; hair; feeding and nourishment, and incontinence care. Performs and/or assists patients with passive range of motion exercises; ambulation, transports patients or assists patients to walk, transfers to/from bed, floor, wheelchair and shower chairs as needed. Perform various tasks assigned by the nurse including vital signs, height, weight, collecting specimens, food and fluid intake and output measurements Provides accurate, timely documentation; reports care provided and patient observations to RN, including unusual or significant changes in physical, mental, or behavioral conditions. Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs promptly and courteously. Check each patient routinely to ensue that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes. Performs accu-checks and documents results accurately. Follow departmental procedures for patient identification and labeling of specimens, properly label specimens following OSHA guidelines, deliver specimens to specimen processing staff in Laboratory or to the Laboratory directly. Thoroughly and concisely communicates status of patients to incoming personnel according to established procedures. Maintain and clean unit and equipment such as medicine refrigerator, med carts, IV poles, charts, chart racks, scales, traction equipment, utility room, etc. As assigned, strip linen, clean bed and unit, make bed, supply patient rooms and unit and perform other housekeeping duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Valid drivers license and an acceptable insurable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical college or courses completed.
  • Two (2) or more years hospital experience in a Unit Secretary or closely related position.
